Swimming in 5400m …

June 3, 2010

jumping off an icebreaker into the Pacific Ocean.
knowing someone was on Shark Watch. (Not as momentarily entertaining as Polar Bear Watch, but close.)
swimming in the swells as they bobbed up and down, making climbing the ladder to get back on the ship either easier or harder depending on the moment. the fact that someone dressed as a banana jumped in.
the fact that people had pool toys.
the fact that they felt bad keeping people out of the water, so they increased the number allowed from 20 to 30 people. that some people swam in wetsuits w/ snorkels in 75 degree water.

Afterwards, I watched the Coasties do a MOB (Man Overboard) drill. At least now I know they’ve practiced! (This was their first practice.)
